Casualty type Engine Failure
Vessel Type Chem, Tank - VT TCH

* We have received reports that chemical tanker, MANDALA, experienced an engine breakdown whilst in a position north west of Mumbai on 18 October 2021.

* The crew were unable to effect repairs to the vessel at sea. Consequently, cargo stowed on board the vessel has today been transhipped to a replacement vessel at Mumbai anchorage to enable the subject cargo to be on-carried to Mundra without undue delay.

* Shipowners have declared General Average as a consequence of the casualty. General Average security is now required from Cargo Interests prior to the delivery of their cargo and we are likely to be able to assist in that regard.

* We are already instructed by cargo insurers concerned with other cargo stowed to the vessel. We are liaising with Average Adjusters in respect of the terms of the GA security to be provided by cargo interests and we may be able to offer certain economies of scale in respect of any third party costs which may need to be incurred.

* We are advised that the replacement vessel is scheduled to arrive at Mundra later today (11 November 2021). However, the subject cargo will not be delivered to cargo-owners pending the provision of GA security acceptable to shipowners.

* We therefore recommend that you contact us urgently if you are concerned with the referenced cargo so that we can immediately start taking steps to protect your interests.
