Report |
* We have received reports that a collision has taken place between two container ships, WAN HAI 272 and SANTA LOUKIA, whilst navigating the fairway to Bangkok port on 28 January 2023. * WAN HAI 272 has a gross tonnage of 16,776 tonnes and a carrying capacity of up to 1,805 TEUs and was on a rotational voyage calling at Osaka, Kobe, Moji, Hakata and Tokuyama (Japan), Kaohsiung, Taichung and Taipei (Taiwan), Hong Kong, Nansha and Shekou (China), Laem Chabang and Bangkok (Thailand) at the time of the collision. * SANTA LOUKIA has a gross tonnage of 16,889 tonnes and a carrying capacity of up to 1,805 TEUs and was on a rotational voyage calling at Saigon (Vietnam), Singapore, Bangkok, Laem Chabang and Sriracha (Thailand) at the time of the incident. * It is reported that WAN HAI 272 has sustained serious damage to its port side fore cargo section and may have grounded as a consequence of the collision. * Immediate assistance was provided to the vessel by tugs. * SANTA LOUKIA is also reported to have sustained damage to the cargo deck area but later resumed its voyage to Laem Chabang, Thailand. Damage to cargo on board is, however, very likely. * Cargo damage/loss and associated recovery issues are very likely to arise as a result of the collision, but it is also possible that General Average and/or Salvage issues will arise, possibly necessitating the provision of security on behalf of the cargo on board either vessel. W K Webster is able to assist in both recovering cargo losses arising from this incident, and also in the provision of General Average and/or Salvage security, should that become necessary. * We are continuing to monitor the situation and will provide updates to this report once further information becomes available. In the meantime, we recommend that you contact us if you are concerned with any cargo on board either vessel so that we may start taking steps to protect your interests. |
