MSC RITA

* We have received reports that Container Ship, MSC RITA experienced a fire whilst the vessel was at Khalifa Port Anchorage, United Arab Emirates on 6 June 2023.

* It is reported that at least three fire-fighting tugs have been deployed to assist to extinguish the fire which appears to be located at the stern of the vessel.

* It is possible that General Average, Salvage and Recovery issues may arise as a result of this casualty.

* Cargo on board located near the fire may be damaged by heat and/or smoke in addition to water damage as a result of the extinguishing efforts. Accordingly, should any damage be advised to cargo you are concerned with, WKW may be able to assist with surveys at a port of refuge, if discharged, or at destination.

* Surveyors have also been retained to ascertain the cause of the fire and extent of damage with consideration to any recovery action and possible defence of general average contribution, if GA is declared.

* We therefore recommend that you contact us urgently if you are concerned with any cargo on board this vessel so that we can immediately start taking steps to protect your interests.
