MONTE SARMIENTO

* We have received reports that container ship, MONTE SARMIENTO experienced a fire in the engine room whilst in a position approximately 50 nautical miles east of Paranagua, Brazil on 23 June 2023.

* It is reported that the vessel was immobilised as a result of the fire and that assistance is currently being provided to the vessel by a tug and Navy ship.

* It is also reported that the crew activated the vessel's CO2 firefighting system, but that failed to extinguish the fire which spread to containers in the aft stacks.

* In addition to fire damage, containers stowed in the vicinity of the fire may sustain heat, smoke and/or water damage as a result of the fire fighting operations.

* It is possible that General Average, Salvage and Recovery issues may arise as a result of this casualty.

* We therefore recommend that you contact us urgently if you are concerned with any cargo on board this vessel so that we can immediately start taking steps to protect your interests.
