-------------UPDATE---------------
7 May 2025 * Further to our initial report concerning the containership MAERSK SANA (IMO: 9289922), it is reported that the vessel experienced an explosion and fire within the main engine room, whilst on a voyage from Newark, United States to Singapore, on 28 April 2025. * It is reported that the vessel went adrift in a position approximately 354 nautical miles east of Bermuda as a consequence of the incident. * We understand that a tug is currently underway to take the vessel under tow towards a port of refuge, albeit that the destination port is, as yet, unconfirmed. * In the meantime, we understand that the vessel is still able to generate electrical power and that weather conditions in the area are reported to be calm. Consequently, the vessel is reported to be in no imminent danger of further distress. * However, there will inevitably be a significant prolongation of the intended voyage which delay may adversely affect any time and temperature sensitive cargo stowed on board the vessel and, of course, the addition of the tug costs. * Moreover, if General Average is declared, General Average security will be required from all Cargo Interests prior to the delivery of their cargo, and we are likely to be able to assist in that regard. * We have already reached out to a fire expert to investigate the cause of the incident, if necessary, and we may be able to offer certain economies of scale in respect of any third party costs which may need to be incurred. * We therefore recommend that you contact us urgently if you are concerned with any cargo on board this vessel so that we can immediately start taking steps to protect your interests. -------------ORIGINAL---------------
